The Great British Switch Off. Are you ready?

Don’t worry, we are!

Remember when 2025 was a long way off?

Back in 2015 when BT made the decision to switch off its ISDN (integrated Services Digital Network) and PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network) in 2025, most businesses would have been forgiven for shrugging their shoulders and kicking any perceived actions down the line. However in the wake of the Stop Sell milestone in September of 2023, there are now increasingly concerned glances being made towards what this means for businesses as we approach the 12 month countdown to the switch off in 2025. Here at Calteq, we have long been preparing for this switch off, both in terms of the product and service offering we provide (the switch off really does play to our strengths) and in the impact this will have on our clients potentially.

Mobile Broadband

Duty Of Care to businesses

At Calteq we have long been pioneers in the field of mobile communications and all things cloud based. But the difference with the Great British Switch Off is understanding that this is so much more than an opportunity for the industry to sell. This is effectively a national upgrade of the whole of the UK, that will affect everyday life in ways that are almost unimaginable. Alarmingly there are still a significant number of businesses out there yet to recognise the change or implement a plan for upgrading from the old copper line ISDN network. Whilst not yet critical in terms of time frame, the moment for change will soon move from comfortable to urgent. It’s then that potential problems can turn from a potential inconvenience to business critical failure. Which makes the New Year a perfect time to act.

An opportunity rather than an obligation

The key thing to remember is that BT implemented the switch off as we way to upgrade the whole country and prepare it for the future of communications. The adoption of cloud based products such as VoIP and other fibre based solutions offers a wealth of opportunity for businesses and their customers. From collaborative communications to running a business on the move, the adoption of these new systems promises huge benefits for all businesses, whatever their size or current communication use. Almost every technological advancement, from adoption of AI to the expansion in the Internet of Things (IoT) even through to remote working, requires an upgrade in infrastructure that is largely overdue. The earlier a business makes the change from the existing network, the quicker that business will be able to benefit.
