Welcome to the third of our Meet The Team Series when the spotlight falls on:
Name: Ellis Hill
Role: Head of Engineering
About Ellis
Ellis is based out of our Royston office but spends a lot of time on the road checking in on all of his projects. He joined Calteq in 2019 after it acquired BlueCube Networks where he was owner and Managing Director. Prior to this Ellis spent 20 years honing his skills and building his reputation within the telecommunication and IT infrastructure arena.
Ellis believes strongly in creating and growing long-term relationships that are built on consistently high standards of delivery. He is proud that many of Calteq’s clients today originate from his early days in telecoms.
As Head of Engineering at Calteq, Ellis now concentrates predominantly on the growth of Calteq’s engineering offering while maintaining close relationships with its existing client base. He has a specific focus on the cabling and in-building wireless divisions.
More about Ellis’s Expertise:
Following the completion of an apprenticeship with the Ministry of Defence, Ellis went on to work for British Telecom, Virgin Media and finally Greenwoods Communications as European project manager Ellis before setting up BlueCube Networks. The acquisition in 2019 followed a highly successful eight year working relationship together.
What does a typical day look like for Ellis?:
Ellis’s day begins with strong coffee and a dog walk across the fields followed by a call to the lead engineers on various projects for an update on progress and to resolve any issues there may be.
He is often visiting an existing customer’s site or heading out to survey a new site, which can be anywhere from John O’Groats to Land’s End. Some projects are further afield including Frankfurt, Munich, Barcelona, Amsterdam, Paris and Ireland but sadly none in Barbados as yet!
Much of Ellis’s time is spent putting together bespoke offerings for new and existing clients. He also regularly undertakes planning on future prospects, services and financials for the engineering side of the business.
Interests and hobbies
Away from the office, Ellis enjoys a very active family life with his wife and three children. He describes his love of running as intermittent having previously completed the London Marathon for charity. He plans to do it again in 2022. A life-long DIY enthusiast Ellis built a two-storey extension on his house with just a little help.
Next week we speak to Michelle Bassett, Head of Customer Services.
